MBA Vs PGDM Vs MMS – Which is better?
Hello Uotians, every year I get this query on difference between MBA, PGDM and MMS. I have already uploaded a dedicated video on the same which you must watch after reading this article.
Let me clear this confusion in the simplest manner – (referred to colleges in Maharashtra state)
The management degree given by Savitribai Phule Pune University is coined as MBA i.e Masters of Business Administration.
The management degree given by Mumbai University is called MMS i.e Masters in Management Studies.
PGDM stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management
PGDBM stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management
PGDBA stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration
MMS and MBA degrees are given by colleges or institutes that are affiliated to universities and such universities are controlled by U.G.C (University Grants Commissions). Both the courses have a duration of 2 years.
PGDM, PGDBM, PGDBA, PGPM etc. are diploma courses provided by colleges or institutes that are not autonomous and not affiliated to any university. The course duration is of 2 years. Most of them are AICTE approved.
In India, the recruiters hardly differentiate between MBA/MMS & PGDM students during placement process. If a student wishes to apply for PhD then preference should be given to University Degree.
The MBA/MMS Colleges that provide PGDM Courses too, have centralized placement process. For example – Welingkar, KJ Somaiya, SIES, NL Dalmia etc.
MBA vs PGDM Admission Process
The admission to MBA/MMS colleges is centralized and carried by DTE CAP rounds.
The admission process can vary from college to college in case of PGDM course. The general process includes the following steps:
- Shortlisting on basis of entrance scores
- Group Discussion or Written Ability Test
- Personal Interview
MBA vs PGDM Fees
Generally, the fees for PGDM Colleges is higher as compared to MBA/MMS Colleges.
